Preschool Curriculum
WSCC Preschool curriculum is
developed around specific topics and themes.
Examples are safety, seasons, colors, numbers, letters, and
community helpers. Themes are reinforced through stories, songs, finger
play, and art.
The
primary goal of the 2 and 1/2 and 3 year old curriculum is social
adjustments. WSCC strives to provide a happy and nurturing learning
environment for their first school experience.
Students are introduced to colors, shapes, and numbers through
songs and finger plays.
Children are also given time for free play, as well as directed play.
Play provides wonderful learning opportunities at this age level.
The
primary goal of the 4 year old curriculum is kindergarten readiness.
Curriculum includes an introduction to letters and their sounds. The
curriculum also recognizes the importance of fine motor skills and works
to strengthen them by cutting with scissors, using crayons correctly,
and holding a pencil.
4-year-olds also receive a Weekly Reader skills book every week.
The cost of this is included in the child’s tuition.
School curriculum includes
Christian behavior modeled by our teachers, saying grace before meals,
chapel and learning to respect God’s world.
All classes will discuss the religious aspects of Christmas and
Easter.
Kindergarten Curriculum
WSCC Kindergarten curriculum is
aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs). We will also
include art, music, and physical education. Students will also use the
Weekly Reader for K-5 learners.
Field trips and special school projects will be planned to
supplement concepts taught in the classroom. There are three grading
periods during the school year. Report cards will be sent home after
each grading period (Thanksgiving Break, March 1st, and the
last day of school).
